The blast
curtain concept offers a unique protection advantage as they significantly reduce glass shards from penetrating the room
and hurting occupants. Thus, this straightforward and naturally designed product protects people and property from flying the
flying debris of broken glass. Broken glass is cited as causing 85% of injuries and deaths in many explosions.
Familiarity
with the various glass hazard mitigation systems will assist when analyzing what type of system will or should be used. In
a nutshell, the use of adhered film to glass can hold glass together--for a time. After the pressure pushes the entire
assembly, there is a chance for the glass portion to still be pushed into the room at a faster speed and with deadly force,
which is referred to as "catastrophic failure" that will blow inside a room as one large item. The blast curtain
assembly behind that glass retention, thus would stop that flying debris.
Refer
to the episodes of Stargate where the "gate" opens with a plume of blue inward and then recedes back to the opening.
This same event occurs when glass panels receive a pressurized force against it as well.
